The Problem:

Both oily and dry skin are the direct result of sebaceous gland activity. Overactive sebaceous glands create oily skin, recognized by its shiny, thick appearance. Pores are enlarged and sometimes blocked and the skin is more prone to pimples and blemishes. Underactive sebaceous glands result in dry skin, appearing tight and dull in color. While the pores are almost invisible, dry skin tends to wrinkle easily and is often filled with tiny superficial lines. The sebaceous gland activity is a hereditary condition, and can be affected by the aging process.

The Solution:

Oily skin is a challenge since there is a fine balance between removing enough sebum (oil) to get rid of the facial “shine” while not inducing skin dehydration nor damaging the intercellular lipids. Dry skin responds well to moisturizers, but the product must be properly balanced to increase skin water content and decrease itching, stinging, or burning. We recommend a maintenance program and products that specifically address your type of skin, even those patients who share both oily and dry areas. Under this program, skin will appear smoother and healthier.
